It’s been just a half of a week since I relaunched Paul Armstrong Designs; I’m happy to say that it has received quite a warm reception amongst the webernet crowd. I guess that all of those late-nights that I spent working on it will pay off.
Update Your Feeds
I’m incredibly sorry, but I mucked around with the syndication feeds for the Weblog and Photo gallery. Even if you are already receiving this update in your feed reader, double-check that you have the correct URL for the feed, as the redirection will only work for a month or so:
- Weblog Syndication:
- feed://feeds2.feedburner.com/paularmstrongdesigns
- Photo Syndication:
- feed://feeds2.feedburner.com/paularmstrongphotos
Technologies
I just wanted to make a quick roundup and give a little shout-out to the technologies behind the new site. I definitely recommend the use of all of the technologies that I have used for this site. In no particular order, they are:
Elsewhere
My friend and colleague, Zach Johnson, launched his new site and blog this past week as well, Zachstronaut. He’s got a lot of smarts in him and seems to reference me often, so you should definitely pay him a visit.

If you're using the FeedBurner plugin, your old feed address (/atom/1) will redirect automatically to FeedBurner, and no-one has to change the URL. Plus you can change services in the future without hassle.
Michael: Unfortunately, since I've switched blogging software so many times, it's actually more reliable to assume feedburner support will always be there. I was also having too many issues with the feedburner plugin and it not respecting exclusions for same-server use, that I went with a simpler solution.
I see that you're now animating the bg color instead of opacity. Nice! :)
Still two comments on the template:
1) I think that you should decrease the frequency of the pulse effect on links and blue buttons.
Now it's a bit annoying and may confuse the user.
I suggest to do something like this on "mouse over" events:
change bg to blue - wait 2 seconds - pulse - wait 2 seconds - pulse [and so on..]
(I choose 2 sec because it's a reasonable amount of time to let the reader focus the link)
The pulse animation would so remind the user about the possible interaction instead of confusing him.
2) why don't you color the string "IT'S WHAT I DO." (homepage) in a more visible way by default?
I think something like #C4CCE5 would be great, making a good contrast between the text and the animated logo.
Everything else is gorgeous ;)
P.S.
I truly love this comment form!
It's both cool and user-friendly, which means PURE AWESOMENESS!!
Really appreciated!
Giovanni: the "It's what I do" line on the homepage is meant to be hidden, as more of a surprise item that most people won't notice. It fades in when your mouse is hovered over it. I'm pretty set on how that is and don't see myself changing it. Way to keep your color suggestion at the same hue value though.
Thanks for all of the feedback and compliments!
Did I say that I am in love with the blue here? I think I did :)
I also didn't notice the logo animation in the home page until now. It's brilliant. Nice job with that too.
